How to Make Talking With Braces Easier

We know it can be a little tricky to talk after getting new braces, so our orthodontists in Burnaby are sharing some tips that will have you speaking normally again in no time.

Before reading further, you should know that if you are struggling to talk when you first get braces, you don't have to feel embarrassed!

Most people experience some speaking troubles at the start of their orthodontic treatment with braces. Remember that this is normal and by following these tips and with a little bit of effort you can navigate this path and start speaking effortlessly again soon.

1. This Situation is Temporary 

Your braces will feel a bit weird when you first get them and this could create some difficulties when you try talking and moving your tongue / other parts of your face and mouth. However, they will adjust over time and it will start to feel normal.

You can create a smooth barrier between your cheeks and braces using orthodontic wax, this helps lower the level of friction and makes it more comfortable to talk.

4. Practice Makes Perfect!

The most important and best thing you can do to start getting with speaking comfortable is to practice, you can begin by trying some speech drills that are available online. Other helpful methods you can implement include reading out loud and singing.

You can also practice these techniques in front of a mirror and record yourself, this helps you detect the mistakes you are making and figure out what you are struggling with.
